Somerset Cabinets is a division of Robert Howard Studios, a woodworking shop nestled in the beautiful Sierra Foothills of El Dorado County. Robert Howard has over 30 years of experience in woodworking, cabinetry, and furniture crafting.

There is no showroom, as every piece Somerset Cabinets makes is completely one-of-a-kind. We emphasize quality and care in each and every one of our hand-made cabinets and furnishings.

A little history

After working for six months in a small furniture factory, Robert Howard decided to enter cabinetry school. For two years (‘76 – ‘78) he learned about construction techniques, design aesthetics and the tools of the trade through his instructors, Les Harris and Brad Roa. The two were extremely patient and knowledgeable, and he continues to use their techniques to this day.

Working with wood came easily. Feeling a connection with the material gave Robert a strong sense of where he belonged. He has been building cabinets and furniture ever since, honing his craft by continuing to pursue a wide diversity of design styles. Today he still loves building. The cabinetry is such a vital element of making a house function. By combining your desires with his craftsmanship, beautiful and functional spaces arise.
